「学生街の殺人」読了

『学生街の殺人』感想

この作品、1987年の6月に講談社から書き下ろしで刊行されたそうで…なんて昔！38年も前じゃないですか。私もその頃は若かったなぁ。

そんな昔に書かれた作品なのに、すごく面白かったわ。「殺人事件なのに爽やか」っていう表現はちょっと不適切かもしれないけれど、公平ちゃんがなんかとってもいいのよね。

まったく接点があるわけじゃないけど、自分の学生時代の気持ちを思い出すというか、「若いっていいなぁ」と思いながら読んだ。…殺人事件の話なんだけどね。

でも、令和7年に読んでも十分楽しめるミステリー。

最初の段階で「この人ちょっと怪しいかも」と思う登場人物が何人かいるのは、まあよくあることなんですが、東野さんの作品って、犯人にも刑事にも主人公にも人間味があって、自然と惹きつけられてしまうわ。そして、犯人がわかってからの展開もまたおもしろくて、ページをめくる手が止まらない。

香月刑事にもどこか“青春”を感じます。素敵な人だなぁと思いました。女性キャラクターたちも、なんというか「東野圭吾さんならでは」という感じがする。

ちなみに夫いわく、「東野圭吾さんはちょっと勝ち気な美人が好き」らしいんですが、やっぱりそうなんだろうなぁ…なんて思いながら読んだ。

ところで、ぜんぜん関係ない話なんですが、公平ちゃんの言葉遣いって、優しい男性を表現するためなのか、「〜のかい？」「〜どうだい？」みたいな言い回しが多くないですか？私のまわりにはそういう話し方をする人があまりいないので、ちょっと違和感というか、

東野圭吾さんっぽさを感じた。

（ちなみにこのお話には出てこないんですが、）大阪弁だとなんかパワーを感じます。…私が知らないからかもしれないけど。

話、それましたが、おすすめですよ、「学生街の殺人」

Murder in the College Town – My Thoughts

This book was apparently first published back in June 1987 by Kodansha… Wow, that’s such a long time ago!38 years, can you believe it? I was young back then too.

Even though it was written so long ago, I found it really enjoyable.It might sound odd to say this about a murder mystery, but there’s something kind of refreshing about it.I really liked the character Kouhei-chan—he just had this lovely charm.

I mean, it’s not like I had anything in common with him, but somehow it brought back memories of my own student days.I kept thinking, “Ah, youth really is something special,” as I read through it.…Even though, yes, it is a murder story.

Still, even in Reiwa 7, it holds up as a solid, enjoyable mystery.

Sure, there were a few characters from the beginning who gave off slightly suspicious vibes—that’s pretty typical.But what draws me into Higashino’s stories is how human everyone feels—whether it’s the culprit, the detective, or the main character.You get pulled into their emotions, and once the culprit is revealed, the story keeps getting more and more gripping.I just couldn’t stop turning the pages.

Detective Kazuki had a certain “youthfulness” about him too.I thought, what a cool, likeable character.And the female characters—well, they had that special “Higashino touch” too.

By the way, according to my husband, Higashino-san seems to have a soft spot for strong-willed, beautiful women.And honestly… I kind of felt that too while reading. It made me smile.

Oh, and this has nothing to do with the plot, but did anyone else notice how Kouhei-chan uses phrases like “–no kai?” or “–dou dai?”Maybe it’s meant to show his gentle personality, but I don’t really know people who talk like that, so it stood out to me a bit.It felt kind of “Higashino-ish,” if that makes sense.

(And just to be clear—there’s no Osaka dialect in this story!)But whenever I hear Osaka-ben, it gives off a kind of strong, energetic vibe. Maybe that’s just because I’m not familiar with it.

Anyway—bit of a detour there—but yes, Murder in the College Town is definitely a recommendation from me!
