「マスカレードホテル」楽しみました！

シリーズの一番最初のエディション、「マスカレードホテル」を読み終えた。

第１版は2014年に出ている。

新田刑事と山岸尚美が初めて出会う、マスカレードシリーズの一作目だ。

ホテルマンのユニフォームがバッチリきまる新田刑事はたいそうかっこいいのだろうなぁと想像する。

時々ネット上にマスカレードホテルの映画版が出てくることがあって、案の定、新田刑事はキムタクだ。　なるほどねぇ。

私は、キムタクファンではないけれど、妥当な配役だと思う。

夫もこの作品を読み終えたら、ストリーミングサービスで映画を観てみようと思う。

そうそう、先日、ついに「幻夜」を観たんだけど、あれは、いかん。

そもそも、原作の時点で、美冬はひどい奴だとは思っていたけど、

ドラマでは、フカキョン演じる美冬は、悪い奴でしかない。

最後の１コマ前も納得いかん。

雅也、目を覚ませ。なぜ、微笑む。

と、まぁ、これはマスカレードホテルの感想を述べるつもりなので、大きく脱線してしまった・・・😅

さて、尚美さんですけど、非の打ちどころがなくて、私は、捻くれ者なのか？どうも「そんな人いるの？」という疑問がわいてくる。

新田刑事は欠点も描かれていて小説としては、すんなりと受け入れられる。

犯人についても途中から、この人じゃないかな？とは思っていた。

でなければ、あんなに尺をとらないだろう。

読者に犯人を匂わせておきながら

犯行に及ぶ方法は、まぁまぁかな。

火曜サスペンス劇場の崖のシーンじゃあるまいし、犯行直前に犯行に及ぶ理由を述べたり、準備をしたりと、ちょっと現実味が薄れたかな。

現実で行われる犯罪だとしたら、そんなことで時間を使わないはず。だって、誰か来ちゃうでしょう？

頭のいい人なのに、そんなことで、人を殺すかなぁ。とも思う。

人生、理不尽なことはたくさんあるのに・・・・

でも、全体として、とても面白かった。小説だし、エンターテイメント性は高いよね。

さすが東野圭吾！

今、探偵倶楽部を読み始めたけど、ちょっとテイストが違う。

まだ、初めの方だけど、やっぱり刑事ものの方が面白いかなぁ。

ということで、まとめさせてもらうと、「マスカレードホテル」面白くてあっという間に読み終わりました！

I just finished the very first edition of the series, Masquerade Hotel.The first edition came out in 2014.It’s the very first book in the Masquerade series, where Detective Nitta meets Naomi Yamagishi for the first time.

I can just imagine Detective Nitta looking super sharp in a hotel staff uniform—he must look really cool.Every now and then I see the movie version of Masquerade Hotel pop up online, and sure enough, Detective Nitta is played by Kimutaku. Figures!I’m not really a Kimutaku fan, but I’d say that’s a pretty fitting casting choice.Once my husband finishes the book, I think we’ll watch the movie on a streaming service together.

Oh, by the way—speaking of adaptations—I finally watched Genya the other day, and… nope.Even in the original novel, I thought Mifuyu was an awful person, but in the drama, Fukakyon’s Mifuyu is nothing but bad.And that second-to-last scene? I just couldn’t buy it.Masaya, wake up! Why on earth are you smiling?…Anyway, that was a total digression. 😅 Back to Masquerade Hotel.

Now, about Naomi—she’s so flawless that I can’t help wondering, “Does anyone like that even exist?” Maybe I’m just being a cynic.Detective Nitta, on the other hand, has his flaws written in, which makes him much easier to accept as a character.

As for the culprit, I started suspecting who it was halfway through. Otherwise, why would the story give them so much page time?The book drops hints, but the way the crime was actually carried out… so-so.

Yet, come on, this isn’t one of those cheesy cliffside scenes from a TV suspense drama, having the culprit explain their motives and prep right before the act felt a bit unrealistic.If it were a real crime, they wouldn’t waste time like that—someone could walk in at any moment!I mean, this was supposed to be a clever person, but would they really commit murder for such a reason?Life’s already full of unfairness anyway…

That said, overall, it was a really entertaining read. It is a novel, after all, and the entertainment factor is high.As expected from Keigo Higashino!

I’ve just started Detective Club, and while it has a slightly different vibe (still early on), I think I might prefer the detective stories.

So, to wrap it up—Masquerade Hotel was so good I flew through it in no time!
