「マスカレード・ナイト」:A Reader’s Take on Masquerade Night

「２日前に「マスカレード・ナイト」読み終えました！ポッドキャスト編集と重なり感想文が遅れたのです。　まぁ、別にどうでもいいことなんですけどね。。。　 さてこのマスカレード・ナイト、私の犯人の推理は外れてしまいましたが、なるほどねぇ。仮装ということであれば、それも選択肢に入れるべきだったと悔やむ？反省してる？　どっちかわからないけど、ちょっと負けた感があります。😂 潜入操作ってどれくらいあるんだろう？ 「おとり操作」は昔テレビ番組で特集しているのをお茶飲みながら、観たことが何度かあるけれど、実際には、緊張感半端ない業務ですよね。 さて、このマスカレードナイトの犯人、捕まってからの態度、違いすぎない？　奥ゆかしさの一つもないですねぇ。 奥ゆかしければ殺人なんか計画しないかぁ。f^_^;) ジェンダーレスの今日この頃、こういう事件も起こりうるのかもしれないなと思ったりもした。 能勢さん、頭の切れる、気配りの利く、素敵なおじさんだなと思いながら読んでいるわけだけど、当然、私よりずっと若いわけで、私がおじさんなんて言ったら申し訳ないわね。 そういう刑事さんってどのくらいいるんでしょうね。 実は、私の中学の同級生も確か、刑事だったと思う。野球部で人気者でしたよ。 

新田さんは、カッコ良すぎるよね。でも山岸さんとは釣り合いが取れるとは思うわ。 いずれにしても、身体が丈夫でメンタルも強くないと難しい職業ね。 ホテルマンと刑事の共通点があるなんて考えたこともなかったけど、そういう視点を知れたのも良かったわ。 ストーリーとしては、もちろん、とても楽しめました。 あとは、まず、夫が国宝を聴き終えて、マスカレード・ホテルも読み終えて、一緒に、マスカレードホテルや国宝の映画を観るのが楽しみだわ。」

Two days ago, I finally finished reading *Masquerade Night*!

My review is a little late because I was busy editing my podcast, but that’s okay—I enjoyed taking my time with this one.

Looking back, my guess about the culprit was completely off. Since the story centers around a masquerade, I really should have considered that angle. I’m not sure if I’d call it regret or reflection, but I definitely felt a little defeated there. 😂

It made me curious about how often undercover investigations actually happen. I’ve watched TV specials about sting operations while sipping tea, but in real life, that must be such a high-pressure assignment.

And the culprit’s attitude after being caught—so strikingly different! Not a trace of humility. Then again, someone with true humility probably wouldn’t plan a murder in the first place. 

In today’s increasingly gender-fluid world, I suppose cases like this could be entirely possible.

Detective Nosei really stood out to me—sharp, considerate, and so classy. Of course, he’s younger than me, so calling him “an older gentleman” doesn’t feel quite right. I wonder how many detectives like him exist in real life. Come to think of it, one of my junior high classmates became a detective too; he was a popular guy on the baseball team.

Detective Nitta, on the other hand, is just effortlessly cool. And honestly, I think he and a ConciergeYamagishi are a perfect match.

Either way, it’s a profession that demands both physical stamina and mental strength. I’d never thought about the similarities between hotel staff and detectives before, so that perspective was fascinating.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed the story. Now I’m looking forward to my husband finishing *Kokuhō* and *Masquerade Hotel* so we can watch the movies together. That will be such a treat!
