「さまよう刃」幕引き：Wrapped Up The Hovering Blade

まず読み終えて思ったのが、「え？何？　Mだけが、密告者じゃなかったってこと？」　いやいやいや、それは、恐れ入谷の鬼子母神でござった。　

圭吾さんのトリックだねぇ。　Mが「パパ」という文字を見つけてとった行動は、彼であるということでいいのよね？　でも、事情聴取では、Mが電話したのは、警察だって言ってる。んん・・・

もう一度読み直さないとダメかな？　あ、これもドラマか映画になってるのよね。

夫が読み終わったら、観なくちゃ！

どんなエンディングになるにせよ、多分、長嶺が救われるエンディングは難しかったのかなぁと私も思います。せっかく自主する気になったのにね・・・　あの人が密告したとしたら、なんか、あの警察官はいい人なんだけど、余計なことして・・・と思うところもある。

長峰が復讐を思いとどまり、未成年の残忍な犯罪の償いのあり方を問うという活動をするって道もあったんじゃないかと、思うと余計ね。

物語の最初は、もう、何ていうのかな。実際、映像を見ているわけじゃないんだけど、まぁ、まるで、目の前で再生されているかのような迫力あるというか、気持ち悪かった。しんどかったなぁ。これだいぶ前に書かれたものだけど、現在も少年法はこの部分、変わってないのかな？

間違いないのは、「さまよう刃」が問題提起の小説であるということかな。レイプシーン除いては、引き込まれた話だった。

The first thing I thought when I finished reading was, “Wait, what? So M wasn’t the only one who tipped them off?” Oh boy, that twist really got me. Classic Keigo-san trickery.

So M’s reaction after spotting the word “Papa”—that’s supposed to confirm it was him, right? But during questioning, he said he’d called the police. Hmm… Maybe I need to reread that part. Oh, and this story was turned into a drama or a movie, wasn’t it? Once my husband finishes reading it, we’ll have to watch it!

No matter how the ending plays out, I feel like it was always going to be tough to give Nagamine a “saved” kind of ending. It’s a shame, especially since he’d finally decided to turn himself in… If that tip really came from that kind-hearted cop, I can’t help thinking he meant well but ended up meddling too much.

I also can’t stop imagining an alternate path—Nagamine putting aside revenge and starting a movement to question how juvenile offenders should make amends for such brutal crimes. That would’ve been powerful too.

As for the beginning… wow. I don’t even know how to describe it. I wasn’t watching a video, but it felt like the scene was playing out vividly right in front of my eyes—so intense, so disturbing. Honestly, it was exhausting to read. This novel was written quite a while ago, but I wonder if the juvenile law has changed at all in this respect.

One thing’s for sure: *The Hovering Blade* is a novel that poses tough, important questions. Aside from that rape scene, which was really hard to get through, I was completely drawn into the story.
