水曜ワークショップ👀 3/11 From Earthquake Memories to Mint Chocolate

**March 11, 2026**

まず最初に、この日が**東日本大震災から15年**にあたることに触れ、それぞれの記憶や思いを共有しました。Aさんは、当時教室で生徒を机の下に避難させた経験を話してくださいました。

その後は、移住の話題や、日本の暮らしの魅力について話しました。Bさんは、日本は景色が美しく、食べ物の質が高く、温泉もあり、生活しやすい国だと感じていると話してくれました。靴を脱ぐ文化など、日本ならではの生活習慣についても話題になりました。

旅行の話では、

* 佐渡金山

* 新幹線の旅

* 大分県の **耶馬溪（やばけい）**

などが登場しました。Aさんは耶馬溪で、しいたけ入りの鶏すき焼きを食べた思い出を紹介してくださいました。

食べ物の話題では、好きなパスタや名古屋コーチン、ミントの味についても話しました。

Cさんはアメリカのミシガン州で食べた**ミントファッジ**が好きだそうです。私は**ミントチョコレート**が好きで、「After Eight」のようなお菓子の話も出ました。

そのほかにも、

* 憧れの英語話者

* 学校で好きだった科目

* 最近聴いている音楽

* もう一度行きたい国

などについて話が広がりました。

Bさんはトルコに行ってみたいと話し、日本はさまざまな文化を取り入れて独自のスタイルを作るのが上手な国だという意見も出ました。

会話の途中では、三角にカットされた耳を持つ猫の話題も出ました。これは、去勢手術をした地域猫の印として知られています。また、ジャズやフランク・シナトラの音楽についての話もありました。

## English Summary

In the English conversation class on March 11, we enjoyed a wide-ranging discussion with several participants.

As the host, I first mentioned that this year marks the **15th anniversary of the Great East Japan Earthquake**, and everyone shared their memories and reflections. A-san talked about how he guided his students to safety under their desks when the earthquake happened.

We then discussed the idea of moving to another place to live and what makes life in Japan comfortable. B-san mentioned that Japan offers beautiful scenery, high-quality food, and relaxing hot springs. We also talked about everyday cultural customs such as taking off shoes indoors.

Travel topics included:

* The **Sado Gold Mine**

* Traveling by **Shinkansen**

* **Yabakei** in Oita Prefecture

A-san shared a memorable meal in Yabakei, where he enjoyed chicken sukiyaki with shiitake mushrooms.

Food discussions were also lively. We talked about favorite pasta dishes, **Nagoya Cochin chicken**, and whether we like mint flavors.

C-san said she enjoys **mint fudge**, which she tried in Michigan in the United States. As for me, I like **mint chocolate**, and sweets such as *After Eight* came up in the conversation.

Other questions led to interesting conversations about:

* English speakers we admire

* Favorite school subjects

* Music we enjoy these days

* Countries we would like to visit again

B-san mentioned that she would like to visit Turkey someday because of its history and cuisine. We also talked about how Japan is good at blending different cultures and creating something uniquely Japanese.

At one point, we also talked about cats with triangular ear cuts, which indicate that a stray cat has been neutered. The conversation even touched on jazz music and Frank Sinatra.

It was another enjoyable session where we explored many topics—from memories and culture to food, travel, and everyday life—while practicing English together.
