# 水曜日の朝は、驚きと笑いとスラングでいっぱい

This morning’s English conversation workshop turned into one of those delightful sessions where everyday life became unexpectedly entertaining.

今朝の英会話ワークショップは、日常の何気ない出来事が思いがけず楽しい話題になる、そんな素敵な時間になりました。

We began with the question:

まず最初の質問はこちらでした。

**“What’s something small that made you chuckle or raise an eyebrow this week?”**

**「今週、ちょっとクスッとしたこと、あるいは“えっ？”と驚いた小さな出来事はありますか？」**

Such a lovely question, because “small” things often become the best stories.

こういう質問って素敵ですよね。小さな出来事ほど、意外と面白い話になるものです。

Participant **A** shared a recent trip to a lighthouse. It sounded romantic at first—fresh air, beautiful views, a lovely outing.

参加者 **Aさん** は、最近灯台へ行ったお話をしてくれました。

新鮮な空気、美しい景色、素敵なお出かけ…とてもロマンチックに聞こえました。

But reality had other plans. Inside was a steep winding staircase that seemed to go on forever.

ところが現実は違いました。

中には終わりが見えないような急な螺旋階段が…。

By the time A reached the top, the adventure felt less magical and more like accidental exercise training. We all laughed in sympathy.

頂上に着くころには、ロマンチックな冒険というより、思いがけない筋トレになっていたそうです。

みんなで「それは大変！」と笑ってしまいました。

Participant **B** confessed to a charmingly practical household habit.

参加者 **Bさん** は、なんとも実用的で微笑ましいお家習慣を教えてくれました。

In her spotless white kitchen, she uses handkerchiefs as cleaning cloths because she worries colored liquids might stain regular towels.

真っ白で清潔なキッチンを保つために、色のついた液体でタオルが汚れるのを防ごうと、ハンカチを掃除用に使っているそうです。

Such a specific little habit, but somehow very relatable.

とても細やかなこだわりですが、「わかる！」と思ってしまう習慣でした。

Participant **C**, who has experience living abroad, shared a cultural observation that made everyone think.

海外生活経験のある **Cさん** は、文化の違いについて興味深いお話をしてくれました。

In English-speaking countries, when someone sneezes, people quickly say **“Bless you!”**

英語圏では、誰かがくしゃみをするとすぐに

**“Bless you!”（お大事に！）**

と言いますよね。

But in Japan? Silence.

でも日本では…しーん。

Returning to Japan made that difference feel surprisingly noticeable.

日本に戻ってきたとき、その違いをとても強く感じたそうです。

Then our conversation took a very modern turn:

そして会話は、ぐっと現代的な話題へ。

**“What slang or expressions do young people use these days?”**

**「最近の若い人たちはどんなスラングを使いますか？」**

That was my favorite part.

ここが私のお気に入りの時間でした。

I learned expressions like:

こんな表現を知りました。

* **lowkey** = secretly / actually / kind of

**実は / ちょっと / 内心**

* **highkey** = definitely / openly / strongly

**本当に / めっちゃ / ガチで**

* **You ate** = You nailed it!

**最高だった！ / やったね！**

* **Clock it** = Notice it / catch that detail

**気づく / 察する / 見抜く**

As someone who teaches conversation, discovering living, breathing slang always feels exciting.

会話を教えている立場として、こういう“今生きている英語”に出会えるのは本当に楽しいです。

Textbook English is useful—but these expressions show how language is actually evolving.

教科書英語ももちろん大切ですが、こういう表現を見ると、言葉はちゃんと生きて進化しているんだなあと感じます。

Honestly, I was **highkey** happy to learn them. 😄

正直、私は **highkey happy（めっちゃ嬉しい）** でした 😄

What I love most about these workshops is that they never stay within the boundaries of “English study.”

Language is never just vocabulary.

言葉は、単なる単語ではありません。

It’s people.

そこには人がいます。

And today reminded me of that again.

今日も、そのことを改めて感じた朝でした。
