コンパクトにまとめる力

海外クラブのミーティングで30秒で質問に答えるセッションがあるんですが、30秒って本当に短い。それでなくても話すのが遅いので、PREP（Point Reason Example Point）を考えているうちに30秒たってしまいます。

先日私が質問されたのは、

"What’s a small change anyone can make to contribute to a green environment?”

環境保護に貢献するために、誰もができる小さな変化は何ですか？

私の実際の回答はこちら。

「害虫が森から飛んできて張り付くので、手入れが大変で、ダイブ枯らしてしまいました。残りの草木も被害に合わせるのはつらいですから、マンションの庭に植えてもらって経験豊富な園芸部の方々に世話をお願いしました。　他力本願で図々しいかもしれませんが、自分のマンションの共用部分である庭に我々の花や木がうわって綺麗に花を咲かせるのを見るのはとても嬉しいです」

もちろん30秒では収まらず、タイムオーバーとなりました。

しかも、おわかりのように、話が長いのに、ちっとも質問の応えになっていない。😅😅😅

ではどうすればよかったか？

話が大分変わってしまうけれども、質問が「誰もができる環境への貢献」ということであれば、回答のポイントは、「少しでも花や草木を愛でることではないでしょうか。」でよかったのだと思います。

嘘ではないのですから。

ピッタリハマる回答を自分の経験からピックアップするのも難しいし、ストーリーの剪定も本当に難しい。

At overseas club meetings, there's a 30-second Q&A session, but 30 seconds is really short. I'm already slow at speaking, so I end up running out of time just thinking about PREP (Point Reason Example Point).

The other day, I was asked, "What’s a small change anyone can make to contribute to a green environment?” My rambling response went over time, talking about how pests from the forest made gardening difficult and eventually led to the wilting of plants. I then mentioned seeking help from experienced gardening club members to care for the garden at my apartment, expressing the joy in seeing our flowers and trees bloom beautifully in the communal space.

As you can see, it was a long story that didn't really answer the question at all. So, what should I have done? Although it's a bit of a tangent, for contributing to the environment, couldn't it be as simple as appreciating flowers and plants even just a little? That would have been a good response, I believe. It's not a lie. It's quite challenging to pick out a fitting response from experience and to trim down the story.
