Friday's Workshop Conversations

**F** What comes to your mind when you hear the word “weather forecast”?

**P1**I was called “a Rainy Man” because whenever I planned something, it would rain. But my late wife was called “a Sunny Lady” because whenever she did something, the weather was good. Even now, it’s always sunny during her ceremonies.

*F** That’s great.

**P1** A typhoon is coming today, so I’m worried about it affecting my son’s return.

**F** Thank you for sharing that family story.

**P2:** In my case, my husband is a “Sunny Guy,” and I’m the opposite, a “Rainy” person.

**P3** Oh, that’s funny.

**F** Next, when you hear the word “TV stations,” what comes to your mind?

**P3** I visited NHK Studio about 10 years ago. I saw the sets for “Taiga Drama” and other shows.

**F** So you visited NHK Studio and were interested in the sets. After that, you visited Studio Park and were guided around to see the different dramas being filmed. Is that correct?

**P3** Yes, that’s correct.

**F** Thank you for sharing. Next, what comes to your mind when you hear the word “toaster oven”?

**P1** I use a toaster oven every morning for breakfast because I prefer bread to rice. I love the brown color of toast; it makes the food look delicious. I also prefer grilled or roasted fish to raw fish.

**F** I totally agree with you. I love toast and grilled fish too. Next, what comes to your mind when you hear the word “bicycle”?

**P3** I have some bad memories about bicycles. I don’t use a bicycle anymore.

**F** Oh, I see.

**P3** When I practiced riding a bike with my husband by the Nakagawa River, it was okay. But later, when I was shopping and had heavy groceries in my basket, I fell and injured myself. That was a bad memory. Another bad memory was when it started raining while I was at the office, and I had pain in my legs, so I didn’t want to ride a bike anymore. Now I don’t have a bike.

**F** I understand. Thank you for sharing. Next, what comes to your mind when you hear the word “fireworks”?

**P1** I love watching fireworks because they are beautiful and colorful. My parents' house is near the Edogawa River, so I can watch the fireworks from there.

**P2** That sounds wonderful. You’re lucky to have your parents' house so close to the river.

**P1** Yes, I can just walk there without needing a bike.

**P2:** It must get very crowded, though.

**P1** Yes, it does, but being close is better.

**F** Next, what comes to your mind when you hear the word “wind bell”?

**P3** I remember visiting a place with a lot of wind bells, and when the wind blew, they all made a beautiful sound. My neighbor also has a wind bell that I can hear in the summer, which makes me feel nostalgic.

**F** That’s a lovely memory. Thank you for sharing. Next, what comes to your mind when you hear the word “spice”?

**P1** I like to cook curry with garam masala and cummin seed. I also enjoy apple pie with cinnamon, which I find delicious.

**P2** That’s wonderful. You must be a great cook.

**P1** Thank you.

**F** Next, what comes to your mind when you hear the word “vegetables”?

**P3** I think vegetables are necessary for a healthy diet, but they’ve become so expensive lately. I like to freeze them to save money.

**P2** That’s a smart idea. I agree, freezing vegetables is a good way to keep them fresh.

**P3** Yes, I think so too.

**F** Next, what comes to your mind when you hear the word “ocean”?

**P1** I love the ocean and have many good memories of it with my family. I tried surfing once but couldn’t manage it, so I switched to bodyboarding, which I enjoy.

**P2** That’s great! I also tried bodyboarding when I was younger and really enjoyed it. It’s fun to feel like you’re surfing without actually standing up.

**P1** Yes, I agree.

**F** Next, what comes to your mind when you hear the word “Mist”?

**P1** I used to practice triathlons, and I remember the cool breeze when running near a mountain. During the run in the triathlon, there was a mist tunnel, and it really helped. It was refreshing and helped me reach my goal. Now, I can’t run as much, but I still appreciate those memories.
