「帰れない探偵」読了

柴咲友香（ともか）さんの「帰れない探偵」を読み終えた。宮島未奈さんが、「読み始めたら、面白くてとまらない」と呟いていたので、早速買って読んだのだが・・・ 

ふむぅ わかったような、わからないような小説だった。これはファンタジーミステリーなのか？ でも面白くないのかというと、結構,面白い。

いつかわかることがあるんじゃないかという期待で最後まで読んだ感じだ。 特に200ページを過ぎた頃から、かなり期待値が上がった。 100ページに辿り着くまでは、「この小説を『わからない』、と言ってしまったら、アホだと思われるのではないか」というわけのわからない見栄のような感情があったように思う。自分でも確信は持てないが・・・ 

そして、読んでいる間、ずっと、何かに共感できている自分を感じたのも不思議。 何か、「こうだから、共感を覚えた」ということがあるわけでもない、というか、この彼女のように、生きたこともないわけだから、わかりようがないのだけれど、小さな行動に対する気持ち・感情には、共感が持てるところが多かったとでもいうべきかな？ 間違いなく、東野圭吾の小説とはちがう、宮部みゆきとも逢坂冬馬とも違う、最近耳で読んだ吉田修一の国宝とも違う。私の読んだ小説の中でいうと、’くどうれいん'の「うたうおばけ」の感情表現に似たところがあるかなぁ。 いや、どうだろう？　‘くどうれいん’の「うたうおばけ」は、とてもわかりやすかったから、全然違うかな。

不思議なタッチだ。

いったいどこの国なのか？　日本とどっかの国々なんだろうけど、どこ？登場人物は、どこの国の出身者なのか？　

出てくる名前がなぜ（仮名：かめい）と表記されているのかも不思議。

この小説も誰かに監視されているという設定なのか？

読了後も「良かった」のか「？？？」なのか、「こうだ！」と言えない小説で、面白かったのかもしれない。

I just finished reading Kaerenai Tantei by Tomoka Shibasaki.Mina Miyajima once posted, “Once you start, it’s so good you can’t stop,” so I went ahead and bought it right away…
Hmm.It’s one of those novels where I’m not sure if I understood it or not. Is this a fantasy mystery?But was it boring? Not at all—it was actually pretty interesting. I guess I kept reading to the end with the hope that at some point I’d “get it.”
Especially after page 200, my expectations really spiked.Up to around page 100, I think I was clinging to this strange pride: “If I say I don’t get this novel, people will think I’m dumb.” Not that I’m sure of that myself, but…
And yet, all the while, I felt this odd sense of connection—like I could relate to something in it.It’s not that I’ve ever lived like the main character (so I can’t possibly know what that’s like), but when it came to the emotions behind those small, everyday actions, I found myself thinking, “Yes, I get that.”
It’s nothing like Higashino, Miyabe, Aisaka, or Yoshida Shūichi’s Kokuhou, which I recently “read” by ear. Maybe a bit like Rein Kudou’s Utau Obake, though that one was far easier to follow.
There’s a mysterious touch to this book.Where exactly is it set? Japan and… somewhere else?I could more or less tell the main character was Japanese, but the other characters? No idea.And why are their names given only as pseudonyms? That’s another mystery.Could it be that the story is set in a world where someone is constantly being watched?
Even after finishing it, I can’t quite say if it was “good” or just “???”—and maybe that’s exactly why I found it interesting.
