📖『架空犯』読了。五代刑事、推せます。

「ん？なんか怪しい…」

そんな風に思いながら読み始めたら、もう止まらなくなっちゃって。

やっぱり、面白かった〜！

今回はとにかく、新鮮だったのが印象的。

これまで東野作品はちょっと昔のものばかり読んでたから、今のテクノロジーが自然に登場してきて、「わ〜、これ、今の話なんだ…！」って、なんだか感動しちゃった。

昔の話なのに鋭いな〜っていつも思ってた東野さんだけど、今回はまさに「今」。

コロナのパンデミックも出てくるし、なんだかリアルタイムで心を揺さぶられる感覚。

そういえば『パラドックス13』も、福島の原発事故の前に出てたのに、すごくリンクしてる感じがして鳥肌だったなぁ。

それから、五代刑事。なんか、かっこいい！

ちょっと前まで加賀恭一郎ロスだったんだけど（笑）、次は五代さんを推していこうかなって思ってる。静かに熱いタイプ、好き。

肝心のストーリーはというと、もうね、最後の最後まで真犯人がわからない！

読み終えてから振り返ると、確かにヒントはあったし、納得なんだけど、圭吾さんってそういう“匂わせ”をあえてしないのがほんと上手い。だからこそ、ラストで「なるほど！」って気持ちよくなる。

ただ、犯行の動機については、ちょっとモヤっとしたかも。

でも、現実でも「もうちょっと冷静に考えられたら…」って事件あるもんね。そう思うとリアリティあるのかも。

五代刑事と桜川係長って、『白鳥とコウモリ』にも出てたんだね！

上下巻持ってるのに、読んでない…かも？（汗）あとで見返してみよ〜っと。

"Wait, something’s off…”

That was my very first reaction, right from page one.

So of course, I kept reading, half-convinced something wasn’t quite right—and I was hooked.

What really struck me this time was how fresh everything felt. I’ve been reading mostly older novels, so seeing modern tech woven into the story made me go, *“Oh wow, this is happening now.”* It was oddly moving, in a way.

Up until now, I’ve always thought, *“Wow, Higashino-san is amazing—even his older works feel so ahead of their time.”* But this one? It’s set in the *present*. There’s even a reference to the COVID pandemic! I remember being blown away by *Paradox 13* for how it came out before the Fukushima disaster but still felt eerily prescient. He just gets it.

And can we talk about Detective Godai? Total cool guy vibes. I was feeling a bit of a Kyoichiro Kaga withdrawal, but maybe it’s time to start rooting for Godai instead. 😏

As for the plot—it kept me guessing till the very end. Looking back, the clues were there. They really were. But the way Higashino drops them so subtly, without ever being too obvious? Chef’s kiss.

Now, the motive behind the crime… hmm. I’m still not 100% sold. It felt a little shaky.

But then again, real-life motives can be just as murky, right? People don’t always stop and think things through. That part felt very human.

Oh—and plot twist for *me*: Sakuragawa, Godai’s direct supervisor and the section chief of the Violent Crimes Division, also appears in The White Bird and the Bat. I totally bought both volumes and somehow missed that? I *need* to go back and double-check now.

他にもいくつか名作が英訳されているものね。　Must-Readだな。

I’m thinking of reading the English version of *The White Bird and the Bat* sometime soon.

There are a few other masterpieces that have been translated into English too, right?

Definitely a must-read!
